The Rare Breed Youth Outreach Center is a drop-in center for homeless and high risk youth. At the Rare Breed these youth can gain access to food, shelter, HiSet classes, educational groups that include drug prevention, sex education, employment education and life skills, or referrals to other agencies. Rare Breed offers free and confidential services to youth ages 13 through 20 who need a clean, safe, and sober place. Services at Rare Breed include Street Outreach, Safe Place, Transitional Living Program, Nursery, Art Room, Music Room, Workout Gym, Food Pantry, Clothing, Laundry, and Showers. Our organization depends greatly on its volunteer group and groups that provide our youth with a hot meal each evening the center is open. Rare Breed is open Monday – Friday 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Opportunities/positions that a LCS member may be able fill are the same as our youth outreach staff. The key is working toward building loving and trusting relationships with our youth and meeting their needs by helping them and connecting them with the resources that will best meet their needs. Interns are often asked to take the initiative on special projects that require more staffing hours than our current staff can meet. Observing and offering organizational analysis will help us provide the best service to these youth that we can possibly provide.
