Leaders in Community Service

Two SOAR leaders smile.

Who we are: We’re a student organization serving the community. Participants match with local agencies to work 10-12 hours per week to address educational, environmental, public safety, economic and human needs.

Leaders in Community Service promotes civic responsibilities through community service that addresses priorities of the local community in the areas of education, the environment, public safety, the economy, or human needs.

LCS was established in 1994 as a complement to the Federal Work Study program. As such, students work at non-profit agencies for the fall and spring semesters of the academic year as their work study assignment. Through their participation, LCS members broaden their educational experience and awareness of community needs along with providing valuable services, insights, and energy to the Springfield community. In addition to serving a non-profit agency, the students also participate in at least one service project in the community each semester.
