| PAST EVENTS: | |
| Grapplemania VI
(the youth
tournament co-sponsored with the Springfield Youth Wrestling Club) was held
on the Missouri State campus in McDonald Arena on Saturday February 11, 2006.
Almost 600 young wrestlers participated. Many
thanks to all that helped.
PICTURES OF THE ACTION
Scrimmage/Clinic with Arkansas club - On Sunday, February 12, 2006, a
wrestling club from Bentonville came to our campus to engage in a scrimmage and
short clinic. Although their club members are in grades 8-11, and many had
little experience wrestling, they performed very well. Our club members
who are new to the sport got their first competitive experience, and everyone
shared there expertise in an informal demonstration of moves and holds.
Thanks to Rod Hughes and his group for coming up and allowing us to share our
love of the sport. Intramural Tournament - Missouri State University's 1st annual Intramural Wrestling Tournament was held on November 16, 2005 in the "studio" (wresting room) in the Plaster Sports Complex. Fourteen wrestlers competed in 5 weight classes. Thanks to all who participated and/or helped, and congratulations to our 2005 Intramural champions: Cory Bextermueller Wrestling Exhibition - We had an exhibition match with top area high school wrestlers on Sunday April 24th, 2005 at 3:00-6:00 in McDonald Arena. This coincided with the shooting of a movie by a local film company, so everyone who was there is an extra in the movie and may be able to see himself/herself in the crowd. Grapplemania V (the youth tournament co-sponsored with the Springfield Youth Wrestling Club) was held on the Missouri State campus in McDonald Arena on Saturday February 5, 2005. Lots of complements were received about how well the tournament was run. Many thanks to all that helped. Sumo Wrestling - Neosha Mackey educated those in attendance on the tradition, pomp & circumstance, and history of this version of the sport. We were also treated to a video featuring some Japanese champions. For more information, contact Neosha at email below. Intramural Wrestling Tournament -The Missouri State intramural wrestling tournament for this year was held informally on Wednesday Nov. 17, 2004. Attendance could have been better, but everyone seemed to have fun and no one was hurt. Grapplemania IV (youth tournament co-sponsored by our club and the Springfield Youth Wrestling Club) was held on Saturday January 25, 2003. Photos to be posted on this website soon. Use the link at the top of the page for "youth clubs". Intramural Wrestling Tournament - On November 13, 2002, the Wrestling Club and Campus Recreation Office co-sponsored a small but very successful tournament in Plaster Sports Complex. Special thanks go to Kelly Shanley for setting up all the brackets and bout cards, to Andy Lokie for officiating, to Neosha and John Mackey scoring, and to the Intramural Office personnel for their assistance in setting up and conducting the tournament. Women's wrestling at Missouri State: it came and went with little fan-fare. We had two teams here, on March 14th, 2002 and watched some excellent free-style wrestling, but the fans were nowhere to be
found. Perhaps 30 people showed up. Despite the poor turnout, I hope everyone enjoyed the evening, and we would especially like to thank the teams involved. They were Missouri Valley College (coached by Mike Machholz - ranked 1st in the nation) and Neosho Co.
Community College (coached by John Taylor - ranked 6th in college women's wrestling). |

HISTORY OF THE Missouri State WRESTLING CLUB: |
|
|
In April 1999, a small group of students and faculty at Missouri State got together and decided to start a wrestling club. This led to the formation of the Missouri State Wrestling Club, a student organization formally recognized by the Office of Student Activities. An organizational meeting was held on Monday, Aug 30, 1999. Ten students attended, and will formed the nucleus for that year's club. hopefully, more will join as the word spreads. We are also looking for members who do not wrestle but are fans of the sport. These members (male & female) are important if we are to fulfill our "service" mission, and promote the sport in SW Missouri.
|
|
| MISSION OF THE CLUB: | |
| This club is for anyone who is interested in supporting the sport of wrestling, at all levels, in southwest Missouri. As such, this club has two complementary missions, competition and service. The former is met by organizing some recreational/competitive wrestling opportunities. The latter is met by helping area tournaments (K-12) and teams, raising awareness and/or funds to promote the sport, maintaining this webpage, etc.
