Education

Position: Community Education Program

Agency: American Red Cross

Purpose of position: Plan, create and implement programs to meet needs of area youth. Provide American Red Cross presentations on various programs, services and topics.

Description of duties:
• Staff community events providing information on various topics and services and/or First Aid and CPR demonstrations/ presentations
• Contact agencies requesting Health and Safety Informational Talks, First Aid/CPR demonstrations and/or Youth Programs and assist in scheduling events
• Assist in maintaining logistics of community events programs
• Assist in reporting and recording results of community events programs
• Provide presentations as requested by community organizations
• Assist in maintaining materials for scheduled presentations

Position: Area Aid

Agency: Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield

Purpose of position: To work with children in an after school program.

Description of duties:
• Work with children in an after school program during the hours of 3 – 8 PM Monday – Friday

 Position: After School Club Facilitator

Agency: Community Partnership - Caring Communities

Purpose of position: The purpose is to facilitate an afterschool club and mentor middle school students.

Description of duties:
• Run club (lesson plans already developed)

• Supervise a few field trips for afterschool club
• Be on time

 Position: Assistant Teacher

Agency: Developmental Center of the Ozarks

Purpose of position: To add another adult to the classroom to lower the teacher/ child ratio so that the SCAT member and teacher can give extra time and individualized attention to a child with disabilities

Description of duties:
• Provide one on one help with a child needing extra attention due to special needs
• Assist teachers as needed in individualized activities, small groups or large group settings
• Play with children to help them learn
• Help supervise the children
• Keep the children safe
• Hands on experience with children with and without disabilities
• Assist teachers in supervision and safety of children
• Assist in preparation of teaching materials for the classroom
• Provide positive interactions with infants or young children
• Interact tactfully with children, coworkers and families

Position: Education Assistant

Purpose of position: Assist the Education Director with research, writing and teaching science in a variety of programs at the museum

Description of duties:
• Assist educators in outreach education, distance learning and programs
• Facilitate “Family Learning Days” activity stations
• Early childhood focus “Science Sprout Day” research, develop and implement science demonstrations
• Write and teach “Brain Bytes” to visitors

Position: Art Class Facilitator

Agency: Harmony House - Family Violence Center

Purpose of position: To act as an arts and craft class facilitator

Description of duties:
• To run at least one class per week
• To find inexpensive and creative art projects for the class
• To implement and complete the projects with the class
• To maintain order in the arts and craft closet/ area
• To makes sure the areas were the project is completed are straightened up and put back

Position: Program Assistant

Agency: Multicultural Program Assistant Hand in Hand Ministries

Purpose of position: To assist in the development and implementation of health and family programs used to teach healthy relationships, healthful lifestyles and community awareness.

Description of duties:
• Assisting in resources and design of a bilingual family living guide
• Tutoring children and/ or adults with English skills and academic subjects
• Work with and communicate with families to help connect them with resources to meet their individual needs
• Become familiar with community resources
• Assist with publicity and community events such as health fairs, advertising/ awareness and assisting community partners

Position: Language and Literacy Project Assistant

Agency: Missouri State University CSD/Speech-Language & Hearing Clinic

Purpose of position: Improving the language and literacy of preschool children with hearing loss.

Description of duties:
• Book orders
  o Organization and distribution of forms
  o Collection of orders
    - Secure box with slit on top as only opening
    - Put box in graduate mailroom above out box
  o Preparation of cumulative spreadsheet for orders
  o Delivering materials to those who ordered 
    - Make sure that all books ordered were received
    - Prepare books received to be distributed

Position: Adult Education and Literacy Tutor/ Retention Assistant

Agency: Ozarks Technical Community College - Adult Education and Literacy

Purpose of position: To provide one-on-one tutoring for adult students enrolled in OTC-AEL classes. Tutors will assist students with reading, writing and math skills so that students may become more successful in attaining life goals. Tutors may also assist students who have limited English speaking skills. Additionally, this position will assist in developing a tutor newsletter that will be produced each semester. Further responsibilities will include assisting with the tutor recognition program.

Description of duties:
• To complete a tutor certification workshop or equivalent under the supervision of a certified trainer
• Encourage and support adult learners
• Meet with assigned learners on a regular basis
• Complete tutoring reports as required by program
• Notify the program of any scheduling changes
• Maintain student confidentiality
• Design and produce a tutor newsletter each semester under the direction of the Adult Education and Literacy Coordinator
• Complete other duties related to the development of a tutor recognition program

Position: Teacher Assistant

Purpose of position: The SCAT member will assist teachers in the classroom working 1:1 or in small groups of children with learning disabilities or autism. If this member is in a marketing/ PR program they can help with webpage, creating a video, networking in the community, etc.
 
Description of duties:
• Provide assistance to children under the direction of the classroom teacher
• May do small group work as well

Position: Conservation Education Instructor 

Agency: Wonders of Wildlife

Purpose of position: Under the leadership of the Director of Conservation Programs this position is responsible for the development and delivery of educational programs including outreach, classroom, visitor enhancement and community based programs.

Description of duties:
• Develop, coordinate and present a variety of education programs and workshops for school groups, scout groups and other civic and community groups
• Coordinate and conduct age-appropriate interpretive presentations, both on-site and off-site
• Assist in development of thematic education materials for teachers that align with the Missouri Show-Me Standards as outlined by the Missouri Department of Education
• Assist in special events and develop specific education materials and activities that related to the event
• Assist in development and lead environmental and conservation education community activities
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with conservation organizations and partners for education and outreach opportunities
• Handle a variety of small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects for educational programs

• Assist with increased community awareness via media such as distribution of PSA’s, scheduling live interviews for event chairmen, listing on community calendars, acquisition of articles in print, etc.

Purpose of position: To help the library staff gather information about the community it serves. The information will be used to promote library services programs and collections and to enhance the resources listed in the Missouri 2-1-1 database.

• Trained to become familiar with library and 2-1-1 resources and databases
• Work with the Community Relations Department to identify demographic and other groups for library outreach

Volunteer Recruitment/Event Planning

Position: Special Events Assistant

Agency: Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks

Purpose of position: The Special Events Assistant will be responsible for helping to plan and execute events throughout the school year. These events will include: Bass Pro Shop’s Outdoor Fitness Festival, Santa Calls, Bowl for Kid’s Sake and Rock n’ Ribs.

Position: MS Service Day Coordinator

Purpose of position: On MS Service Day, an army of volunteers spreads throughout the community, descending on the homes of individuals who are affected by MS, to complete whatever household projects they cannot complete, so that at the end of the day, even if for only one day, they can live in a world free of MS!

Description of duties:
• Assist people with MS by providing help with household chores and yard work that they are unable to do themselves due to mobility, fatigue, heat sensitivity or other limitations caused by MS

Position: FLIP/ Hands on for Seniors Assistant

Agency: United Way of the Ozarks

Purpose of position: To assist the VP of Resource Development Coordinate activities, meetings, committees and volunteers of FLIP and to help coordinate Hands on for Seniors volunteers and projects. The SCAT student would also help with basic public relations and marketing activities as well as working with the marketing volunteers.

Human Needs

Position: Office Caseworker

Agency: American Red Cross

Purpose of position: Within established policies and procedures, provides Red Cross service directly or indirectly to disaster victims through the casework process.

Description of duties:
• Provide Red Cross services directly or indirectly to disaster victims by providing emergency casework assistance, home visits or additional assistance casework
• Uses appropriate resources and referrals to provide Red Cross services
• Maintains effective working relationships with other functional units within the Red Cross as well as external partner agencies
• Operates within appropriate, established fiscal controls, consulting with a supervisor when appropriate
• Process appropriate forms, reports and records on a timely basis including Disaster Registration, Case Record and Disbursing Order
• Perform related duties as assigned
• Depending on skills, abilities, interests and availabilities, the department may provide additional training to work Armed Forces Emergency Service cases

Purpose of position: The RBYOC helps youth leave the streets and serves to reduce sexual abuse, exploitation and dangerous behaviors.
