 The following is a list of not-for-profit agencies in the Springfield area. This is not a comprehensive list. If you want to serve at an area agency that is not listed, please inform the SCAT Advisor so that the agency may be contacted. American Cancer Society 

  • Mission: The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
  • What is Relay for Life?
    • Relay for life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer in our community. At the event, we celebrate survivorship and remember those we have lost to cancer, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society in its mission to save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer, and empower individuals to fight back. During the event teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one member on the track at all times.

American Red Cross 

  • Mission: The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

  • Mission: To enhance a child's self esteem and outlook for the future by: facilitating a positive one-to-one relationship with an adult role model with measurable impact and providing financial assistance for personal scholarship needs.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield 

  • Mission: To provide programs that guide and direct youth from any background, with special concern for the disadvantaged, through a series of developmental activities that teach values of life, strengthen self-esteem, and develop productive citizens.

Center for Addictions:Cox Health

  • Mission: To assist those with addictions in their quest for wellness because addiction causes so many of our fellow human beings to die prematurely, to live in pain, and to lack the joys and blessings that life can bring.

Champion Athletes of the Ozarks 

  • Mission: To build self-esteem, self-confidence and everyday life skill therefore enhancing the lives of children and adults with disabilities through sports competition and new opportunities.

Community Partnership of the Ozarks, Inc (Caring Communities) 

  • Facilitates and promotes community problem-solving by coordinating and developing all available resources for the betterment of the community and its people.

Developmental Center of the Ozarks 

  • Mission: Developmental Center of the Ozarks makes a positive difference in the community by providing services which enable individuals to reach and maintain their optimal level of development.

Discovery Center 

  • The Discovery Center of Springfield is an interactive, hands-on museum committed to inspiring people of all ages with a life-long love of learning and an appreciation for the world and our place in it.

Family Violence Center

  • Mission: To provide shelter, advocacy, and education to women and children who are victims of domestic violence and promote the principle that all individuals have the right to a life free of abuse.

Grupo Latinoamericano

  • Mission: To bring together Hispanic, Latin, and North American individuals and families or mutual support and friendship; to sponsor and promote cross-cultural social activities; and to serve as a resource to the community.

  • Mission: To empower individuals, ethnic and minority families, disadvantaged, and at risk populations to become healthier physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, contributing actively and productively to the community.

  • Mission: Our mission at the Make-A-Wish Foundation® is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.

March of Dimes 

  • Mission: The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. The Greater Missouri Chapter is a leader in our community for saving babies through research, advocacy, community services and education.

Missouri State Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic 

  • Mission: The mission of the clinic is to provide a clinical/educational environment in which to train students enrolled in the programs of speech-language pathology, audiology and educational assessment and intervention services for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Ozarks Food Harvest

Ozarks Literacy Council

  • Mission:To increase literacy in Southwest Missouri by providing free tutoring and learning services to those unable to read, write, or compute at levels necessary to function fully on the job, in their communites, and in society as a whole.

Ozarks Public Broadcasting

Ozarks Technical Community College-Adult Education & Literacy 

  • Adult Education & Literacy instruction is designed to teach persons 16 years of age or older to read and write English and to substantially raise their educational level.
  • The purpose of the program is to expand the educational opportunities for adults and to establish programs that will enable all adults to acquire the basic skills necessary to function in society, allowing them to secure training to become more employable, productive and responsible citizens. This type of instruction will allow adults to continue their education through completion of secondary school.
