Eligibility for the SCAT Program

SCAT members are a select group of Missouri State University work study students who have been chosen through a comprehensive application and interview process. These students have shown commitment to actively serving in their community by applying their individual abilities and skills to area agencies. The SCAT program was formed in 1994 as a compliment to the Federal Work Study program that also addressed the University's  Public Affairs Mission. From 1999 to 2002, SCAT partnered with AmeriCorps. SCAT also has an Advisory Committee composed of faculty, staff and agency representatives.

SCAT students work with an area not-for-profit agency for the academic year, August-May, as their work study assignment. SCAT members are paid by Missouri State through the Federal Work Study program, at $9.00 per hour (effective Fall 2007) for approximately 10-12 hours per week.

All applicants must have earned 24 credit hours before beginning their SCAT service, have a 2.5 cumulative GPA, enrolled and complete 12 credit hours per semester and be eligible for the amount of Federal Work Study needed for the SCAT year. Applicants must complete an application, provide two letters of reference and attend an interview session before selection.

Members are expected to commit to SCAT for Fall and Spring semesters of the year they join. All members work to complete an average of 10-12 service hours per week (excluding University holidays), including service in the community, participation in all training sessions, attendance at all scheduled meetings and other planned events. Members are required to earn a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester and maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
