The following tips outline the basic SCAT member agency placement procedure.
- Check current service project description listings by either looking on-line or meeting with the SCAT advisor sometime before the Fall semester begins.
- While reviewing the service description listings, think about what you would like to accomplish with your 430 service hours, if you have any transportation restrictions or class schedule issues. Make these preferences or issues known to the SCAT Advisor before you leave with a referral.
- Once you know where you want to serve, let the SCAT Advisor know so you can get the contact information for that agency.
- Call the agency contact person and explain that you are in SCAT and would like to discuss placement for the supplied position and service project description.
- Set-up a time that you can visit and interview with your potential supervisor.
- Take a tour of the agency while you are visiting the supervisor and ask any questions that you may have about how things work, their policies, and expectations of you.
- Bring a copy of the service project description with you while visiting the agency, so that you can ask specific questions about what you will be doing for the agency or to clarify what the tasks are.
- Bring your resume if you have completed one or a portfolio or sample work if it relates to the service description area or the type of service you expect to perform at the agency.
- Once you and the agency have agreed on your placement contact the SCAT Advisor to recive your Fedral Work Study referral.
- Have your agency sign the referal and return it to the SCAT Advisor.
- Remember to always act professional and appropriately at all times while performing service hours because you are representing SCAT and Missouri State University, as well as your agency.
- Have fun and learn!!!
