About OBGS

OBGS is a recognized student organization at Missouri State University.  All graduate students in the Biology department are members.  The goals of this organization are:

  1. To provide funding to active members to attend professional meetings and conferences.
  2. To facilitate the sharing of knowledge and expertise in the areas to biology and scientific research.
  3. To bring together its members, who are often separated from each other because of differing class schedules and work responsibilities, into a cohesive social group.
  4. To invite and sponsor a guest lecturer for the Biology department's seminar series, once per semester.

The President is responsible for leading OBGS meetings, introducing topics and speakers, compiling a list of students seeking funding from SOFAC, aiding in the SOFAC application process, and delegating responsibilities as necessary.

The Vice President is responsible for maintaining the OBGS web site, presiding in the absence of the president, and assisting the president in all aspects of the organization.
