The Missouri State Horsemen's Association provides the students, staff, and all members of the community a chance to meet others who share their interest in horses. The club participates in community and campus activities, focusing on learning and sharing information about horses and equine-related activities.
Some club members participate on the Missouri State Equestrian Team and compete through the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. The Missouri State Horsemen’s Association sponsors both western and hunt seat Intercollegiate Horse Show teams. Riders compete in regional, semi-final, zone and national competitions in both individual and team horsemanship competitions. Riding is a club sport at Missouri State and is partially supported by the Student Organization Funding Allocation Council.
The Missouri State Horsemen's Association is a proud supporter of therapeutic riding. Students serve as volunteers to help physically and emotionally challenged young people to enjoy horses in a safe environment. Students can be side-walkers, horse handlers, and/or can help with instruction of the riders depending upon their interests and abilities.
Other Missouri State Horsemen participate on the Ranch Horse Team and the Horse Judging Team.
The Ranch Horse Team is a new team that provides students the opportunity to show their horses or the college horses in ranch horse competitions. The team is not only showing, but also helping to train the University horses to participate in these events. This activity provides students the opportunity to expand their riding experience and ride and show in an industry rather than in a collegiate setting.
One of the longest standing riding teams at the university, the Missouri State Rodeo Team is an organization of university students who are interested in the sport of rodeo and in the preservation of our Western Heritage. The team competes in ten NIRA rodeos each year.
The Horse Judging Team competes annually at an intercollegiate judging competition held at the Oklahoma City NRHA Futurity. The focus of the team is reining horses and the rules and regulations of the National Reining Horse Association.
