About ASU

History

The African Students United was started in 2004 by a group of students who wanted to show the continent of Africa as it is and not as it is portrayed in the media. After its two years, ASU had crashed due to dwindling numbers from participants. It lay dormant for two years and was re-launched in the spring of 2008. From ASU's noble dream and six initial members, ASU has grown to have more than fifteen members with this number growing exponentially.

Now, ASU is tuned into the needs of African students and international students in general. The ASU takes pride in its members graduating from Missouri State, and is willing to go to great lengths to ensure that this becomes a reality. Members of ASU constantly strive to maintain the highest possible grades (GPA) both among its members as well as peer student organizations at Missouri State. By joining ASU, you can help educate students about Africa as well as inspire them to erase the stigma engrained in their mentalities by the media and other sources.
